Delta Hotels by Marriot Winnipeg and its Blaze Restaurant and Lounge is the perfect place to discover downtown

Downtown Winnipeg has got it going on this autumn, and Delta Hotels by Marriot Winnipeg – along with its handsome Blaze Restaurant and Lounge – is your primetime spot to take in all the action.

Located in Winnipeg’s Sports, Hospitality and Entertainment District, connected to both the RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg and Bell MTS Place via a heated skywalk, the Delta is the city’s largest 4 ½ star hotel.

The whole hotel has been recently remodelled, with some of the chicest rooms and public spaces you’ll find. There are countless mint amenities, like the sunlight-bathed Odyssey Pool Area (featuring both an indoor pool and whirlpool, and a seasonal outdoor pool area and bar), as well as free Wi-Fi, agronomical work spaces and heated floors in the bathrooms of all the sunlit guest rooms – the majority of which feature private balconies.

That being said, perhaps the most understated and compelling amenity within the hotel is its restaurant and lounge, Blaze, which continues to offer some of the best Canadiana cuisine in the city in an environment that is polished-yet-unpretentious.

For starters, we guarantee you’ll find yourself utterly charmed as you experience their weekend brunch (7 to 11 a.m.) – which features well-executed classics like an eggs benny with sugar and salted cured Canadian bacon, two perfectly poached eggs, and one of the best hollandaise sauces in the city – while sitting fireside in the restaurant.

Or, use Blaze as your pregaming destination before attending an event at the Bell MTS Place – whose upcoming schedule includes Paul McCartney (Sept. 28), Cirque du Soleil (Oct 3-7), John Mellencamp (Oct. 23), Jack White (Nov. 6) and the return of the Winnipeg Jets.

Now the only thing that rocks harder than that lineup is the cocktail menu in the lounge, which includes frothy whisky sours, sturdy Old Fashions and various herbaceous craft cocktails and so many excellent appetizers (2 for $20, or $12 for one), like bison perogies, pickerel bites and lamb meatballs, along with boards that are too good to pass up, like the smoked goldeye board featuring whitefish caviar, crispy capers, dill crème fraiche and rye crostini.

They also have a killer burger selection, including the signature Blaze Burger, featuring freshly ground chuck served on house made potato scallion bun, and the chicken sandwich, which features a fried chicken thigh with aioli, pickles and red onion.

There are also numerous entrees that beckon on the brand new Fall Dinner Menu, like twice cooked porchetta with celery verde and blueberry maple sauce, Arctic char with chorizo broth and a fennel and heirloom tomato slaw, and a confit crispy chicken dish served on a white bean cassoulet.

With such a fine roster it's needless to say that Blaze isn’t just for a pregame dinner or post-event cocktail. It’s also a great room to bring clients to for a business lunch, while there is also a private dining room for up to 20 people.

Right now is a great time to discover Blaze and the Delta as they are currently offering a staycation package (offer is good until Sept. 30), that combines both the hotel and restaurant. For as low as $159 per night (1 king bed or 2 queen) you can enjoy a stay that includes a $25 food and beverage credit, free self-parking, and late checkout (3 p.m.).
